Affinity Water and HS2

We stumbled across this rather innocent-looking consultation by the Environment Agency.

Only when we accessed the files through a rather tortuous route did we discover it is all about HS2. This application by Affinity Water to abstract more water from a source near Watford, is required solely to cover the possibility that HS2 could damage the aquifer with their tunneling work. So this is a pollution enabling application.

It is the job of the Environment Agency to protect the environment, not assist in its pollution. For this reason alone, we object to the application.

We are concerned at the manner in which the documents explaining this application are so hard to view, making informed consultation minimal.

You can view our consultation response here (PDF, 213 KB). The deadline for the consultation is the 11th October 2019.
