With groundwater levels now exceptionally low, the river in Chesham is dry as far as Lord's Mill, Waterside.

The River Chess has suffered many issues resulting from the Chesham Sewage Treatment Works, going as far back as 1889. These problems continue today.

2015 found the RCA volunteers busier than ever, as we led on a survey of the river's water vole population; increased our number of riverfly monitors; helped launch a study into low flows and gave more members of the public, especially children, the opportunity to get their feet wet.
