Fly Monitoring Results
December 2014 Results
December results were variable, with scores increasing upon November's results at some sites and decreasing at others. Happily, all sites' results were above the trigger levels set by the Environment Agency.

Long Term Trends
One of the aims of our riverfly monitoring work is to build up a long term picture of the riverfly populations along the length of the river. The below graph shows the average scores recorded in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The severity of the drought experienced in 2012 appears to have had a substantial and negative impact on the fly life at some sites. While the scores at the Queens Head and Meades Water Gardens sites are better on average in 2013, the highest scores for these sites in 2013 were only half of those recorded in 2011. Could this be an ongoing impact of the drought, or could there be water quality concerns at these sites?
